Which game this is — and which it is not

Echoes of Mystralia is a spellcrafting action-RPG roguelite by Borealys Games, an independent studio in Montreal founded in 2014. It is the studio’s follow-up to Mages of Mystralia (2017), and press coverage of the Early Access announcement describes it as set in the same universe — but it is a new game, not a remaster or re-release. Do not mix it up with the older title when searching for guides: the spell systems are different, as covered in our spell builds page.

The game was first revealed in summer 2024 at Gamescom, PAX West and the Tokyo Game Show, ran its first public Steam playtest in February 2025, and launches into Steam Early Access on August 11, 2026. The Steam page lists Windows only. No price was published at the time of this check; the developers state the Early Access price will be its lowest price point.

Start with the free demo

The best preparation available right now is the demo, live on Steam since February 16, 2026. According to the demo’s store page it includes:

  • One explorable region, the Ash Forest, with a variety of enemies and a first boss
  • Four core spells to shape and master
  • 50 Memories to modify and enhance your spells
  • 15 Relics to push builds further
  • An early look at the Lotus, the permanent progression system

At the time of checking, the demo held a “Very Positive” all-time rating on Steam (86% of 347 reviews). The demo is single-player, matching the full game.

The core loop, as officially described

You play Mazarim, a Watcher charged with protecting the Cycle of Memories after a Rift opens and the Shadows of the Past spill into Mystralia. Officially described structure:

  1. Runs start from the Azimuth Temple, the hub where Watchers develop their skills and take advice from a millennia-old dragon.
  2. Out in the world, you fight through evolving encounters — the official site calls this the “Eternal Return,” with events, encounters and challenges renewing each run.
  3. Spells are built from Memories on a freeform crafting canvas; combining and reordering components changes how a spell behaves.
  4. Permanent progression flows through the Lotus system and Altar upgrades between runs.

The official site describes combat as working both at range and up close, with room to refine your approach every run.

What Early Access includes at launch

The Steam page lists the launch content for August 11, 2026:

  • 3 diverse regions to explore
  • 7 unique magical elements
  • 16 starting spells on the freeform spellcrafting canvas
  • 100+ Memories to modify spells (press coverage of the announcement cites 110)
  • 40+ Relics and 50+ Altar upgrades
  • Guardian encounters and Elite fights — see our bosses page for what is confirmed
  • Hidden puzzles, Rifted Echoes, secrets, and full access to the Lotus progression system
  • 25 Steam Achievements

Borealys says the game passed 175,000 Steam wishlists before launch, per press coverage. The stated goal is a full release within a year of Early Access, with 1.0 adding new spells, puzzles, relics, boss fights, story lines, the final narrative act and a new region.

What is not yet verified

Because the game has not launched, the following simply do not exist in any official source yet, and we will not invent them:

  • Best starting builds, spell tier lists or damage numbers
  • Boss names, weaknesses or reward tables
  • Drop locations for specific Memories or Relics
  • The Early Access price and exact unlock times by region

Anything you see elsewhere claiming otherwise is speculation. This page will be re-checked at launch and updated with firsthand run notes.
